Default Blackbird xl 1.1 very 1.7

I'm looking at purchasing the blackbird xl, and was looking for some imput on the model.

Will a 1.1 hold up for a thru hike (assuming "normal" usage), or is it worth the space/weight to get the 1.7?

    Thanks!

I feel like your weight would matter. I plan to use a 1.6 dream hammock. I personally would not want to go any thinner.
Hiking the AT is “pointless.” What life is not “pointless”? Is it not pointless to work paycheck to paycheck just to conform?.....I want to make my life less ordinary. AWOL

A 1.1 will hold up just fine...but your weight is a factor. If you fall within the weight range of the 1.1, you will be fine.

If weight is the only real factor I should be ok. I'll start the hike about 185. Thanks for the replies.

If you weigh 185 you'd be fine with the 1.1 dual layer. Personally, I think their weight limits are very conservative.

I guess I was more worried about the durability of the fabric, abrasions and how it would hold up over time. It doesn't seem to be an issue from what I have heard/read so far.

I did end up with the dual layer. Never thought about mosquitos biting through though. That is an excellent point (that sounds driven through unfortunate experience!)

My understanding is that exceeding the weight limit probably isn't going to cause catastrophic failure, but rather is more likely to lead to permanent stretching of the fabric and thus a sag in the hammock.

I like the dbl. layer to have the option of a pad and the extra thickness of material between my butt and the mosquitoes.
