Default Hammock Tarp as a tent?

So I've been hammocking for a little while and love it. My wife has different feelings about hanging and just brought up coming with me on my Long Trail end to end in August! I'd be more than happy for the company but my tent is a big Agnes 4 lb monster. That being said I do have a hammock gear cuben tarp with doors. Would it be feasible to buy just a bug net and pitch my tarp over that as our shelter? Has anyone done this with success? If I could buy a cuben ground sheet with a bathtub floor with a bug net attached to it, pitch my tarp over it.......sorta a perfect lightweight shelter right? Any thought? Or any experience doing something like this?

I'm so confused, I'm not sure if I lost my horse or found a rope.

Try out the fly and see if you can comfortably fit under it first. You probably don't want a 4-pound tent on the LT.

My wife and I took a 24 ounce Zpacks tent (Hex Twin) on the Long Trail. We didn't expect to use a tent very often, and we also expected to find very small tent sites -- both of these things turned out to be true. I think we tented maybe 1/3 of our nights on the trail. Lots of locations in the northern section almost require staying in the shelter, and we also enjoyed some very nice B&B's. I was very glad to have the lightest possible tent.

We had a good experience overall on the LT.
