Is cleaning the shower an option if it looks grimy? Or does everyone just prefer to carry an extra pair of shoes over mountains just to avoid helping out a hostel owner. : )

I’ve cleaned showers, but locating the scouring powder and gettin the job done right can be difficult if there is limited hot water and a line.

thing about flip flops as shower shoes.... how thick is the sole? typical flip is what 1/4 inch? 1/2 inch?
ok, how high does water splash up after landing on the dirty floor? 6 inches? a foot?

I don't really understand how flips would protect against nasties on a shower floor. Crocks a bit better, maybe...but they have the holes on the sides, so???

That being said...I have zero hostel experience, but I have plenty in campground showers. I have always worn crocks and done the bird dance.... or flips and do the same thing. I always try not to think about it....and hope that the volume of clean water flowing down my foot will overpower the nasty stuff splashing up. Probably a pipe dream, but it keeps this germophobe sane.

Carrying around a spritz bottle full of bleach seems to be the best answer... douse the floor with a generous application a few minutes before you shower...no more problem. They do sell it dehydrated granular form in the pool stores....would that be more fitting for a hiker?

I wouldn't go barefoot at any hostel shower. I stand in one croc, washing my other foot. This is also coming from a guy that takes the ice bag in a hotel room and puts the tv remote in it lol
