I hiked SOBO in 2013, started June 1st. Some of the fords were high but I only "had" to wait once while water levels receded. I say "had to" because I really just wanted a good reason to Zero in Monson. Otherwise, I really liked my start date. But, it did make for some hot weather in Massachusetts through the mid-Atlantic states. YMMV.

    Have fun on your walk!

My sister and I have been talking about a 2018 Sobo for quite some time now, and we've finally decided to commit. I've got a good bit of gear already, and I'm heading out for some shakedowns this summer. We want to be totally prepared for this

I'll be SOBO in late June of next year with my pup. He's a 96 pound lab mix. I hope crossing the fords won't be a problem for him!

They aren't. I have found a few boarding possibilities while I finish Baxter. I'm mostly concerned with how well my pup will cross any high water areas.

I'll be heading sobo solo as well late may or early June. A bit anxious to be going alone but hey, got a year to prepare for it!

I too am hoping for a late-May, early-June SoBo start, but it will all sort of be determined on when my company gives me my walking papers (they are merging and closing our Atlanta office).

Here's something to help you plan that start date: Baxter and Katahdin Info for Sobos.

They will only be a problem if you make them a problem.
