Did he tell you someday you might need Decompression surgery ? Not talking fusion here necessarily .
Some upside to both non operative care and invasive surgery. Non operative upside :continue to treat pain through rehabilitation exercises and/or medication successfully...but the nerves are still pinched in a narrowing of the spinal cavity. Remember,... it works until it doesn't.
    Invasive surgery route :
Have surgery to remove the lamina, which relieves the compressed nerves, aka; the Laminectomy/Decompression surgery. Some surgeons will advocate adding a spinal fusion to reduce the possibility of the spine from further degeneration in the future.

Long story short is keep doing what works for you but understand circumstances sometimes predicate a better outcome.
Getting lost is a way to find yourself.

My understanding is that one of the causes of spine problems is due to not drinking enough water. The cartilage between the vertebra act as shock absorbers. In order for them to function they need to be hydrated. If they dry out they either shift or crack.

Mostly a European based study, I'd be interested in the full details.
