    :banana Troutdale, VA resupply?

Hey y'all, I hiked through Troutdale years ago and remember a small shop, but we had a car and I can't remember if it is within walking distance to Dickey's Gap. Anyone have info on Troutdale? I will be on foot only and don't want to go too far off the trail.

2.5 miles one way from Dickey gap to Troutdale. Better options on up toward i81 if you are going that far. Atkins, Marion.

I walked this road to Troutdale last fall and Lone Wolf is right, nothing open anymore, no store or restaurant. I don't know if the church hostel has any food or not. If you want to go the other direction, Sugar Grove has an Exxon station with a limited supply, best to go on to Marion 15 more miles.

South a few miles. So if you stop on the trail at Dickey Gap, it's a couple of miles to Troutdale on VA 16, then a few miles further to the store. The store has a very friendly proprietor, and it's a nice place, but it's tiny and probably only good for a very short term resupply.

From Dickey Gap if you head north on VA 16, it's about 5 miles to the Exxon station/convenience store in Sugar Grove, which has a decent selection, again short term only. (NOTE that the Dickey Gap trail intersection is a little confusing, so pay attention.)

If you can hike another day or two to the Partnership Shelter, there is a cheap local transit bus that will take you to Marion, where there are several large supermarkets for long term resupply.

Just an added note, VA 16 is a dangerous road walk to Troutdale--no shoulder most of the way and traffic goes pretty fast. I was able to hitch a ride one way but not the other direction.

Have to agree. Disappointed. Daleville US 220 crossing is just a mile or two south. Flying Mouse isn't open M-W, and does not look like an easy hitch. Very disappointed.

    My bad. Troutville, not Troutdale.

It has a small post office which can serve as a resupply as well as a great little hostel for a peaceful night's stay.
