Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

I caught a tick trying to catch a ride on my leg this past Sunday while on the AT in NY.
Caboose had two on her between MacAfee Knob and Daleville yesterday.

Last night a guy at our shelter picked up two on the trip to the privy and back.
I'm wearing treated pants, shoes and socks. None for me so far.
Two on partner a couple miles S of Hot Springs...nothing on the dog or myself...she did a bathroom bushwhack though....
Springer to Deep Gap in early April, none. 30 miles in the mountains in Vernon, NJ this past weekend, nothing again. KNOCK ON WOOD>
Did a little walk in Shenandoah this past Sunday (4/30) from Rockfish Gap up to Jarmans Gap and back. Found one tick crawling on my leg (by the seats and antennas, on the mountain top, when I was headed back) between McCormicks Gap and Beagle Gap. Disposed of it and continued. Wasn't wearing any Deet, Permethrin, etc... Was a hot (mid nineties) but beautiful day.
u.w.
Most seen was 20+ on a dog at a shelter. Owner groomed the dog for ticks every night and kept count.
Virginia had a lot of ticks.
