I find hand sanitizer really helpful for dissolving sticky tree sap that I get on my hands while grabbing branches on steeper slopes. Soap does not work on that.

Does every post have to drone on and on with every conceivable instruction and information on how to navigate through the woods?
Neither Ivory nor Dr. Bronners soaps will do much if any harm to the trail.
The effects of horse traffic outweigh all human efforts to LNT.

Please ignore Post #22. I apologize for being cross and crabby.
    The 200 feet rule works.
    Cheers!

Given how often I see hikers washing hands and dishes in small water sources, I'm quite happy when people ask about the right way to do things.

I can't stand the smell of most hand sanitizers. I carry soap and a small squirt bottle of rubbing alcohol.... multiple uses: foot massage, fire starter, first aid, etc.

I also carry spare caps to my Smartwater bottles, one has a trio of small holes drilled in it for a quick shower/wash up.

Pretty much dollar stores and Dollar General are great places for the bottles with rubber straps. But I would also use Wet Wipes and soap as well. You need friction and clean under your nails to properly sanitize your hands.
