Uncle Tom and I were out on Mt Abraham in Maine over the past two days to do our "spring cleaning" trail maintenance, and we met a really early NoBo named Turkish at the Spaulding Mtn Lean-to. I'm amazed that anyone is this far north this early in the year, especially with the late winter conditions we've had up here. Just in the section Tom and I were on, the snow was still several feet deep in some places (and in others, the trail was flowing like a river).
He was at the Stratton Hostel last night, and will be taking a slackpack day today and a zero tomorrow if all goes according to plan. We met him at the White Wolf last night after he'd slogged through more snow and a raging Carrabassett River. Pretty rugged guy! I'm guessing there aren't any other NoBos ahead of him... that would be just crazy!
