Default Pine Swamp Branch Shelter Closure

I passed through the area two weeks ago. Postings said the shelter was closed due to Gypsy Moth devastation to the trees in that area. However, hikers were still staying at the shelter, so the closure doesn't appear to be enforced.

I can't imagine why they would close a shelter because the stupid Gypsy Moths ate all the leaves on the trees. That just means there's no shade.

I have a suspicion is that the crowns are dead and are deadfall waiting to happen. There was a AT campsite located north of the CT Mass line that was built which was in a grove of oaks. Much of the crowns were dead and if you looked around in the woods there were several dead branches that had come down. Not so good place to camp on windy night!.
