    Default GSMNP Section Water Sources

Has anyone been from Fontana Dam to Clingmans Dome the last couple of weeks? If so how are the water sources and did you encounter any problems on that section?

GSMNP has been getting plenty of rain (another full inch forecasted tomorrow). Water shouldn't be an issue.

    Yeah...

i haven't heard of anything dry up that way.....

worst comes the worst--if it is dry--can make (and it will add miles) a side trip to Moore spring which seemingly always flows....

No issues. The section of trail from Clingmans to Goshen Prong was pretty muddy last Sunday. If shelter water sources become an issue, they will be listed on the backcountry reservation site. Presently, the only issues specified in that stretch are bears and bees! I have reservations to hike it soon.

Water was no issue 3 weeks ago, it was ridiculously muddy though.

when there is water issues, the backcountry office will post it at the trailheads. They are always a top source of info.

Just finished a hike from Clingmans to Mollies Ridge. Water is flowing VERY slowly at Mollies. Good flow everywhere else we stopped for water (specifically at Double Spring, Silers Bald, Derrick Knob, the un-named spring north of Thunderhead, and the piped spring 0.1 miles down Bote Mountain Trail. We plan to report the slow water at Mollies to the backcountry office. By the way, there were NO bees at either Mollies or Derrick Knob. That will be reported also.
