Yes, I've been there multiple times. I'm always there in the winter, don't recall seeing any wildlife except for birds. Normally I get water near the Cow Run shelter or melt snow. Wouldn't recommend trying to stealth camp.

    Backpacking light, feels so right.

Folks seem to trout fish there so it may be cleaner than in pre-Columbian times. Used to be a big natural oil spring that discharged right into the creek but in 1859 a fake colonel took care of it by drilling a well behind it.

Many, many trips thru oil creek. Know it quite well. Bear inhabit it, as do deer, turkey, and an occasional timber rattler. Easy going, but some nice challenging areas for a novice hiker. Two sights, each with six adirondak shelters and adjacent fireplaces. Winter camping is allowed and there is often firewood through winter, courtesy of blowdowns and whatever groups are doing community service for chopping and stacking.

Anything else you would like to know? Potable water T shelter in summer and pit toilets open year round.

Oil Creek is in NW PA,Venango County on a map of Pa. I also wouldn't suggest stealth camping.
