Default Black Phase Timber Rattler - A.T. Amherst County VA

Woo hoo! So I saw my first rattler last summer near the top of The Priest, a gorgeous black phase, but I didn't have my phone on me. I thought I'd never get to see another one again, then this past weekend I saw another one. I must have walked right by him and dismissed the rattling noise as bugs, but it sounded just different enough for me to turn around and look and there he was! Wish I could post the video, he was really putting on a show with all the rattling.

Only Timber rattler I've seen....just out of hot Springs...just about stepped on him. Pic was taken after I moved him off trail with my trekking pole....

My son ran across one on the AT in Connecticut. We caught the rattle sound on video:

At the end you can see how long he was as he retreats across the trail.

Good stuff. I don't think I could have brought myself to get close enough to one to move even if I had to. That is when I find the nearest DETOUR lol.
