    Default Gasoline and shuttles.

The recent events in Houston and LA. are impacting the price and availability of gasoline. Don't be too shocked if that effects the cost and availability of shuttles.

Filled up for $2.599 today, in RI. It was $2.199 in July, $2.299 in August. Saw one sign for $2.759 in my travels. Seems like some profiteering may be going on???

“Good Lord,” he murmured, “good Lord! What will you people do next? Look here. What’s your basis of applying freight rates, anyhow?” he suddenly vociferated with furious sarcasm. “What’s your rule? What are you guided by?”But at the words, S. Behrman, who had kept silent during the heat of the discussion, leaned abruptly forward. For the only time in his knowledge, Dyke saw his face inflamed with anger and with the enmity and contempt of all this farming element with whom he was contending.“Yes, what’s your rule? What’s your basis?” demanded Dyke, turning swiftly to him.S. Behrman emphasised each word of his reply with a tap of one forefinger on the counter before him:“All—the—traffic—will—bear.”

Increasing sales price for fuel already delivered, in the ground, and paid for is correctly called profiteering. If, however gas stations increase their pricing following a delivery that costs them more it is an effect of refining slowdowns.

Traders cause bigger fluctuations than reality

Gas buddy shows 1.93-2.28 around me. Costco and Sams being cheapest.

I drove 2800 miles last week
Was pleased at how generally consistent prices were across much of country
    Basically 2.1-2.50 off interstates.

OK, fair enough. Probably a local phenomenon. I just had the impression that this one station I passed was pushing the envelope, price-wise. Someone is always going to try and milk the tragedy of others to make a $$$.

Heard on the news last night that our European allies are rushing tankers of gas, diesel, etc. to us. They are going to temporarily suspend the clean air requirements until the Texas refineries are back on line. They did this when George W. was in office and it worked out pretty well in keeping prices down.

Kudos to the "Cajun Navy", and all the others, who are still hard at work in all the affected areas!

Most hikers and shuttle drivers just want to be treated fairly. Hikers realize you do this as a service but need to make a profit.
Problem is where there is no adjustment when gas is $2.05 but used as a reason to charge more when it goes up to $2.60 or higher.

Have you ever noticed gas is most expensive in poorest areas of town?
