the grateful dead are long gone . i would not call mayer and a few remaining members the grateful dead . what people call shows with the boys today is a bum hangout where kids hold out cans asking for donations .

    i'll disagree.....

the scene today is much much better than it was in the last years of the actual grateful dead....

the shows ive been going to the last couple of years has not had as much riff raff as it did when i first started touring around with the dead (late 80's)......

and yes, i realize mayer aint jerry------but its still good music and ill keep going to shows.........

    its my life....

did you make it to Raleigh? What an amazing show! This tour has been great. Enjoy Alpine Valley. After Raleigh, I am gonna have to get a day pass for Saturday at Lockin. Watching Long Strange Trip again which reminded me of this thread.

Rainbow Gatherings are self segregating. The "drunks" are relegated to their own little area... At least they were circa 1990.

In high school, the whole hockey team would shoot pucks at me during practice. The AT erased the part of me that got bullied,” says Superman"

I mean that speaks volumes. Yes he should not have done that, but this is years of therapy or a lifetime of repression erased and why something like the AT thru hike is essential, it changes lives for the better. Not perfect as we see here, but we are all human and all make mistakes.

But more to that, and people tend to take this too far and far too often, but a life changing event tends to have one make a monument to that. If he really overcame a childhood of being bullied on the AT, I would give him a pass on such a monument, I know because the AT thru re-wrote my (very sad) childhood and changed my life. I didn't carve my name, but understand what such a thing means. Though I think he could have chosen a better way to do that. Really really wished he had. But can also understand it on a very primal human level. On a jury I would have to find him not guilty.
Being bullied and thin-skinned is an excuse for destruction of public property? Millenial much?
    You are in heaven.

i have never been to a gathering but from other friends that have-----this is what they try to do----keep the alcoholics and the serious drug users along with people running from the law in one area.............called "camp A"

We don’t allow drunks on the group W bench, only father rapppers and mother stubbers...though occasionally some slip through the cracks.
we also don’t allow no banjo pickin’ round here, either!

    I don't care what Mama don't allow.

But I'm sure glad that I don't hike in a Terry Coyle video.
