Default Water - Mt. Rogers/Grayson Highlands

Heading up there next weekend for 3 days. Does anybody have any intel on the water situation there? I just like to be sure as my last overnight this summer at Three Ridges was extremely dry. The creek behind Maupin Shelter was down to a trickle. Just want to be sure before I go.

    Thanks for all replies.

Should be pretty good with recent storms like Nate rolling thru the area. I was there a few weeks ago and streams were running good in the Highlands.

From White Top to Elk Garden the streams and springs were all flowing really well.

We did Fox Creek to Elk Garden and all the streams were flowing good. TONS of people out, but I guess that's to be expected this time of year.

How was the water situation, since you've been there presumably?

Good, all the streams had sufficient flow to fill up, even the small ones.

The spring at wise shelter was weak. It was more of a puddle than a flow. Passed thru last Wednesday

A serious front went through today. Boone, NC experienced serious flooding.
The mountains from Asheville north to Maryland should be seriously wet.
    Be careful!

I'm heading out this weekend (10/28-10/31) and wondering if I should bring 2 liters of water capacity or just 1. I've been trying to carry less water in areas where it's easy to fill up often. I'll be doing the 50 mile stretch between Damascus and Troutdale.

You might need an ice axe to collect your water.

Let’s make the forecast a bit more relevant. Damascus, VA.
