    Question video format help needed

    Hi -

this is actually trail related even though it appears not to be...

Are there any mac experts out there who can help out? I'm trying to convert from a regular DVD video format to a file that can be read by quicktime, and edited in iMovie or Final cut. I found some software that could encode from .vob to .dv, (Drop2DV) but it ran into problems. Also, 13 minutes of material ended up being about 2.5 gig. Is there any freeware that could convert a DVD to something smaller? Thanks,

    wc

Handbrake is what you need! That is what I use to rip DVDs for my ipod, but there are other formats to convert to.

    Hi Weathercarrot,
Are you talking about a DVD that you recorded footage on via camcorder?

    Arrow ffmpegx

ffmpegX is what you need but you will have to copy the VideoTS folder from DVD to your harddrive. ffmpegx only works on local VideoTS folders.

Let me know if that doesn't work. My husband is a Mac nut and we have a lot of Mac guys we can draw on their expertise.

You can download and get info on ffmpegx at:

I own an advertising agency and post production studio equiped with macs. Just yesterday ripped a DVD with ffmpegx and converted to a DV format file for a client.

    Good luck and have fun
