    Default Imusa pot lid

I wanted a lid for my 10 cm Imusa and also wanted it to be non-rusting, durable and made of food grade material. That leaves out tin can lids, tin foil etc. I could buy one but where is the fun in that? I was over at Walmart and saw they had some Imusa 10 cm cups in stock. I also noticed that the rounded bottom of one fits into the flared top of another so I invested $1.97 in an experiment. I ground off the bottom rivet of the handle, then I put it on top of my other Imusa and drew a line around it where it stuck out of the top of the other cup. I cut off the bottom with a hacksaw and sanded the edge smooth to make a lid. I stuck some metal duct tape on to make a handle. It fits pretty well and weighs 0.5 oz

Neat. there are also some Pepperidge Farms gormet type cookies...and that lid also fits the IMUSA pot. Buy cookies....eat cookies, recycle can, repurpose the lid....

Now I feel foolish for having purchased a lid.

It came out a little crooked but not too bad.

Provides some insulation. Not enough for a vigorous, sustained boil. But enough for almost boiling water.

I'm going to try this for the handle. Available in lots of places.

I was using a piece of carbon felt I had left over from some stove making experiments and it works well for grabbing the handle and it won't burn like a bandanna can if it gets too close to the flames. I ran across a thick silicone wrist strap we had around the house so I wrapped that around the handle and used a couple of pop rivets to hold it in place. It works OK but still gets pretty warm. I may just go back to the carbon felt. Here is a picture of both.

Carbon felt has worked best in my experiments.

I cut the original handle off and added this one which folds up on top of the lid. Works great!

    Very cool idea
I never thought of it .
I have used lids to such containers as the larger peanut tins and aluminum pop top lids cutting them off with side can opener.
I a suprised how many universal fittings there are for these type things.
    Very neat.

How long does the aluminum tape last as a handle for the lid? The heat of boiling water doesn't release the adhesive?
