Water is scarce in MD and up to 1/2 mile off the trail and steeply down the side of the ridge. In July and August springs can dry up. There are no places to spend money close enough to the trail to make it worth the detour. Not if your trying to do 40+ miles in a day. Your going to need a lot more then 1K calories and 2 liters of water. Good luck.

I thought so regarding water. I can carry 4 liters. I regularly run 50k’s on about 1k. I did a 40 miler for my 40th with similar elevation of this challenge. I have HF to refuel on Saturday.
