I’m hoping to go back early September to re try the CT after bailing last July due to my pups injury....if you can as others have said the fall is incredible! Early July was HOT......says a guy who lives on the beach in Florida! I did the CL in late sept and enjoyed the cooler weather along with no bugs, rain and fall colors with bugling elk....the Bivi was nice but think I’ll get a hotel in Frisco next time. The leadville hostel is a great place to stay as is the Simple hostel in Salida. When in Salida hit the Moonlight pizza.....some of the best pizza I’ve had!

Salida is a cool little town with decent downtown scene. Simple hostel is good. Forget name of breakfast restaurant, but it was good too. Long walk, but nothing else to do at 6 am. Not gonna eat trail food in town... Saw a couple deer in town by school. Great place for a zero Midway.

Salida made one of those 20 best places to live lists.
A sure sign that it’s on its way to being ruined.
Visit soon before it’s too late.

was thinking about driving to Denver and parking. now i'm thinking about driving to Durango and parking, so i have my truck ready to go at the end of the hike. i heard it's a 10 hour bus ride from Durango to Denver. any other forms of transportation? any trains run that line? thanks... just thinking if i had to ride a bus, i 'd rather ride it before the hike than after! thanks in advance...

Always best to hike to your vehicle. No worries about relying on anybody or changes in schedule.
Price a one way car rental to a Denver suburb near the start of the CT.
Or blow off the starting miles and drive to Frisco-Breckenridge. Hike back to Durango.
    Good luck.

Followed by a day of drudgery reversing your path westward across the Denver Megalopolis.
    Still beats the bus.

Looked into that...also an option but about $175.00 more above the rental cost with lil fuel...hard to beat SW airlines as far as rescheduling flight dates if plans change as they did for me last year.

Appears to be about 6.5 hours from durango and goes through Salida, break it up with a stop at the Simple hostel.

I’m talking about driving the rental car east across the width of the Denver sprawl and then taking buses and trains and Uber west to the trail. Seems like a waste considering the low rating of the trail up to Summit County.
Versus dropping the car in Frisco and hit the trail south.
My OCD is tuned to the best trails not where the Chamber of Commerce wants me to go.
    YMMV.

I've often wondered if the "rideshare" option, Dgo to Den, on the western slope craigslist might be a viable option??

been pulling out all my old gear, cool i have most of what i need to get out there again.
just found my Petzl head lamp, was hoping it still worked so i open it up and put in 2 AAA bateries and closed it, damn thing didn't work
so i start beating on it and opened it up to see if i put the batteries in wrong, takes me a few minutes to realize it takes 3 batteries, works just fine
