I have a rock stackin app on my phone
You can walk in another person's shoes, but only with your feet
Those that rock stack prolly lip smack.
I thought you were joking about the rock stacking app. I guess you weren't.
Rather than calling the people we share the trail with idiots... maybe we should be educating them about how the cairns are used for navigation and an art project cairn in the wrong place could get someone lost or dead. That the digging up of rocks, harms insect life, which impacts the rest of the food chain (at least temporarily.) The movement of rocks can cause erosion of ground soil, which has all sorts of negative consequences in certain terrains.
I think we can sometimes call the people we share the trail with IDIOTS---as on my last trip on the BMT I passed my favorite ridgetop "pretty rock feature", a place I like to sit by and get out of the wind etc. Well, wouldn't you know it but idiots came out and scorched it, signed Steamed.
Trip 188 (167)-XL.jpg
Here's the pretty rock as seen from the BMT heading north.
Upon closer inspection---the not so elusive Two Legged Idiots are out and about so beware.
Stacking rocks destroys the eco system in the area.

Wow, Matty you must have a very unique ancestral tree. Wonder what your DNA consists?
Good to hear from you.
Rock stacking to create cairns can preserve ecosystems.
I'd venture each one of us has done more damage(change) to the ecosystem in the last 24 hrs, possibly here in front of keyboards, than rock stacking has in each of our entire lives.
Some comments here remind me of observing an anal environmentalist AT thru-hiker ripping another AT thru-hiker a new arse for throwing his banana peel off out of sight into the woods 50 ft away from the trail.
Humans, and human behavior, is part of the ecosystem not separate from it.
