Wait! What? I love the little mini-stonehedges! Kind of creepy in the dusk on a rainy day. Makes you want to look over your shoulder. That light from the fire down in the trees is where the sacrifices happen...better hike faster. Don't camp near here.

If I start seeing those woven voodoo things in the trees I am going to take off running.

    I like his last quote---

"Let's check our egos at the trailheads and boat launches, and leave the earth's natural beauty alone."

As if the boat launches themselves aren't an eyesore???

Plus, cairns do serve a purpose now and then as many trails have neither trailposts or blazes. I can think of one in the Big Frog wilderness called the Big Creek trail which has no upper trailhead marker of any kind, except for two small cairns showing the jct.

Cairns marking trail heads are one thing, random “prayercairnes” can confuse trails.

I do underground rock stacks so they do not disturb the natural appearance

1: find the right rock that is on the surface (this will be the top of the stack)
2: photograph the area to ensure perfect restoration
3: dig up other rocks and stack them underground beneath the top rock
4: fix up the area to perfection
5: maintain my "better than thou" attitude about those who stack rocks above the surface
