Doing a section hike thru the Smokies on March 11-16, and was wondering about the water status on the trail/shelters? Also, if anybody has any tips that would be much appreciated!

This early in the year, combined with the rain we've had lately, water will not be a problem...
its only later in the year when spring might dry up....
It rained like crazy when I was in the Smokies two years ago and every water source was full of mud and leaves. I would recommend that you take a filter over any sort of chemical treatment (or both). The aqua mira-only users were not happy.
The Smokies is a borderline rain forest. I couldn't even find a dry spot to sit down for lunch when I passed through.
Most of the time (especially in the spring) there is too much water in the Smokies, not too little !

You won't have anything to worry about. Plenty of sources.

As TNHiker said plenty of rain lately, surplus of half and inch YTD, surplus last year and more on the way. Plus record high temperatures. But that will likely not last. No snow cover now, but March could be different.
More importantly, do you have permit yet?
Great. Thanks so much guys!
