    Smile TENs units and hiking

Was wondering if anyone had tried a TENs unit while hiking rather than just popping the infamous vitamin I. At home I have been using an older model which is heavy at 8 oz, but I’ve seen other models that are rechargeable and look much more light weight (although much more expensive).

Tens units are transcutaneous electrical stimulation which send tiny pulsing shocks through electronics you place at various trigger points on your body. They stimulate natural endorphins which decrease pain, also give kind of a massage to tight muscles. I use mine for muscle spasms. There are new, smaller, rechargeable models that might work well.

Thanks for for your input ;?)

Sounds intriguing... All I know about such things is that I used a similar therapy to cure my Achilles Tendonitus a couple years ago. It hurt. But it worked.

I was wondering the same thing and thinking about taking mine.

One worry though is getting it wet.

My concern would be with the Pads to transfer the electrical charge; especially when placed onto oily, sweat soaked skin without alcohol skin prep to aid adhesion. The unit itself would be difficult to keep from Shorting out or being destroyed by air moisture. Although, External Batteries and phones seem to be ok. Not sure the risk is worth the benefit over lightweight Vitamin I.

If ya put the electrodes on the butt cheeks you can add 1/2 mike an hour to your pace.

But no I never took my old unit hiking, Vit I weighs a lot less, and if I’m doing that bad...time to head back to the ranch.
