Completed my SOBO thru-hike of the JMT yesterday at 5:00 p.m. at Whitney Portal after arising at 2:15 a.m. at Guitar Lake. WHEW, what a day!
Will post pics and report later in the week after getting home. Right now am enjoying a sit-down breakfast in the Alabama Hills Cafe in Lone Pine, California! Hitting the road for San Diego in a little while, then flight home in the morning. Been gone over a month. Looking forward to "Home, Sweet Home."

Wonderful job, well done.
You never know just what you can do until you realize you absolutely have to do it.

Congratulations Rain Main
Looks like you had some awesome weather (at least for summiting Whitney).
Congrats! My sister and I were out the same time as you. She was out for 25 days. I was only out for 9. But she/we very well may have crossed paths with you!
Hearty congratulations to you, Rain Man! Great picture atop Mt. Whitney! How exciting - what a view.
Congratulations. Yeah, that last day is humdinger ain't it? That down hill wreaks havoc on the knees. Now you can look forward to getting home, and catching up on all the Clemson stuff. The football team is looking good as usual and the QB controversy appears to finally be coming to an end.

Last year, two Nashville REI members won a "Golden Ticket" lottery permit to thru-hike the John Muir Trail in the California Sierra Nevada mountain range. From late August into September, Raymond Myers and Neal Caldwell (and a California friend) backpacked 250 miles from Happy Isles in Yosemite National Park to the summit of Mount Whitney. Over this 25-day trek, they commonly hiked above 10,000' elevation and ended with Mount Whitney's grand finale summit at 14,500' elevation, the tallest point in the Lower-48 United States. The trail was hard, the views were awesome! The weather was super, the people were wonderful! Come hear about their journey as they share photos of the JMT's famous landmarks including Yosemite, Half Dome, Devil's Post-pile, Evolution Creek, Red's Meadow, Muir Trail Ranch, the ten "passes" they climbed over, and beautiful lakes and tarns. Raymond and Neal are happy to discuss wildlife, scenery, the footpath, food, and logistics and to answer the questions you might have before getting ready to hike the John Muir Trail yourself!
