How's the hitching from Sam's Gap to Asheville?

I got a ride from Sams gap into Asheville from family but the traffic seemed pretty consistent on the highway. The parking lot for the trail is below the actual highway so hitching might be a little difficult depending if you use the main highway or the side road that the trail head is on. Sorry not of more help.

I've done that from Hot Springs, sort of easy and has the option to stay overnight as a fallback. Just walk around town, talk and hit the tavern.

I suspect that Sams Gap should also work at the rest stop, if not the trailhead parking area.
