    Default Help with section length

We finished section hiking the AZT last fall and got a start on the CT.... We have a little time in May but being too early to get on the CT we want to do a section of the CDT.

Specifically the section that runs through the San Pedro Parks Wilderness. We would start at the Los Pinos trailhead and go north from there through the wilderness to the next FS road we can get a 2 wheel drive pickup into.

We don't know what that road would be or how many miles to it from Los Pinos TH... any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

    Thanks! Nobadays and Just Sue

Postholer.com has a map of the CDT that should answer your question VIEWED ON A COMPUTER.
The Guthook app would answer your question on a phone. Finding a road crossing might be tedious. You have to zoom in close.
Y’all do know that 300+ miles of the CT & CDT are the same trail?
    Have fun.

The Ranger District office for that area should have current road conditions and offer advice on a suitable road. Most FS roads are suitable for automobiles. A truck is easy.

I apologize. Once again, the internet is useless.
Google Maps at Postholer.com does not show the wilderness area and shows the CDT as a road walk.
I don't have the New Mexico map from Guthook.
I was never here. You can't prove a thing.
    Sorry I wasted your time.

The CDT Coalition has published maps for the CDT. In PDF format. For FREE!
    http://continentaldividetrail.org/maps/
New Mexico maps 100-103 show the information that you need.
The CDT enters the W.A. at mile 651.5 on Map 100 and exits the W.A. at mile 663.5 on Map 101. There are several roads you can pick for ending the trip.
    Cheers!

Thank you for this! I'll go take a look. I was on Postholer earlier and couldn't find maps I could view. I did however skip through the data book pages until I found a little help there. If I interpreted it correctly that piece is segment 25, and not very long really. Only about 20 miles from Los Pinos to Hwy 96. We will have to assess what we want to do, maybe add another segment or two or just go back to the original plan of linking trails in San Pedro Parks wilderness for a 3-5 day trip.

Thank you again for the resources! We were aware that the CT travels along with the CDT. Likely we will end up hiking the entire CDT over the next few years...

    You’re welcome!
I’m glad that I found the free maps. They are excellent! Combined with the Guthook app, I think that’s all anyone needs.
    Have fun!
