    Default HMW Bear Precautions

The more I beat this dead horse....

On the HMW, end of this month, 7-8 days food for two people, need to figure out my bear food plan...so confused. Ursack vs PCT vs Z pack kit vs canister vs sleep with it, or a mixture of any of these. Any advice would help, Ive read just about everything on this site and others and my brain is spinning. Seems like any system would likely work but is there anything special about the HMW I'm missing?

It's just a hiking trail. Don't sweat it. I used an Ursack and a 20 liter waterproof bag. Hang the waterproof sack, tie the Ursack to a tree. Didn't have any problems with bears, but mice and squirrels were another story.

    Enjoy your hike.

I just slept with mine in my hammock in the 100 mw.
I am not young enough to know everything.

mouse hung mine once, and hung it from the end of my hammock the other three nights - no issues

Thx for the replies. What type of bag are you guys hanging the food or sleeping with the food in? What kind of capacity, days of food, are you getting from the ursaks? Big disparity on how much food they hold. I was planning on mostly MH meals transferred to freezer bags (still have to figure out how to actually pack the food)...

I always hang mine in the 100 MW. Bring two cords if you do. It’s a lot of food to hoist initially.

Big (12.25"x20") LOKSAK/OPSAK in a well worn Sea to Summit light weight 13L dry sack. Carried five days of food in, walked out at Abol bridge with a days worth.

My meals were home made & I mailed the box to Shaw's.
