It’s getting pretty late to expect a happy ending. :-(

The problem with that theory is that in trying to implement it in such a public park in such a popular place... you run the risk of witnesses that could contradict your story.
i agree...
and this same theory of a crime happening occurred after the lady was killed by the bear in 2000...
and that was proven to be false...
same thing----she was on a very popular trail (little river) and there were other people along the trail...
also----she, along with her husband, were local to the area and one would think that, if he were to kill her, to know of less popular places.....
Yeah. But back in August a young ginseng poacher walked out of the park after being missing for 11 days.
At this point all possibilities are reasonable assumptions. The likelihood of her being alive is diminishing. Never underestimate the ability of people to make poor choices when the logical choice is staring them in the face.

Weather conditions were more favorable for him...
He was at a lower altitude and earlier in the year (warmer), and I don't think there were any major rain events while he was missing.
In this case, the weather at the altitude she went missing has created a high risk of hypothermia.
I felt some relief when I read she was wearing both a jacket and a poncho, and I believe at least two layers on her legs (such as legging and pants).
This map posted Monday on the Park's facebook page shows a very large search area.

TNHiker....Is she missing in the same area as the deceased male ginseng poacher was found?
no...
she is in the ciingman's dome area----he was basically at the boundary of the Park at Rich mountain road.......
Folks on facebook saying there is updated information but have not released it. Something about crews were following a creek in a very remote area, and that the family has been called. All the info that has been provided but they said Knoxville local news crew was there and will be releasing the update on tonight's news.
TNHiker: Can you shed any light on this?

UPDATE: Search crews located the body of Susan Clements in Great Smoky Mountains National Parklate this afternoon. Her body was found approximately two miles west of the Clingmans Dome parking area, and 3/4 mile south of the Appalachian Trail. Our hearts are with the family and friends of Ms. Clements. The park would like to extend our appreciation to the many agencies and organizations that participated in the search effort.
Further details will be provided when they become available.
Thats never the outcome anyone wants to hear. I hate to hear that.

I hope the family gets some peace knowing the outcome, rather than wondering. My thoughts are with them.
If those distances are "as the crow flies", that puts her in the Huggens Creek drainage... ruffly due south of the Goshen Prog Trail intersection.
Sounds like she might have missed the turn to the parking lot, hiked all the way to the AT, turned left, and hiked until dark, then eventually went off trail for some reason (bathroom, spot to lie down, chased by animal, etc).
A big congratulations on the searchers doing such a great job. It's amazing that they were able to find her located 5 miles and a mountain drainage away from where she went missing.
Condolences to family and friends.
I heard that they believe her blood sugar dropped and she got disoriented.
I am not young enough to know everything.
sounds like maybe the exposure was the eventual COD?
Not unexpected totally after a week, but that sucks.
Another gutwrenching outcome.
Condolences to the family.
