I reduced my base weight by 28 lbs. I’m super excited about the change.

That's great. Does it include food, water and fuel?

I had to cut way back on dinner(s) to reduce my base weight.

Anything over 140 is hard to handle on a long hike. I would leave your shelter at home.

Body weight is base weight to me. You have to haul it around.

That would be FSI (from skin in) to most people.

This past summer I dropped near my base weight off my body weight. Started my last hike imagining 'Boy, this'll be like a dayhike.' Nope. Don't get me wrong, it was a far better experience, but 20 on the back of a 225# guy is still 20# on the back of a 205# guy. Now gotta shave down more weight on the back to bring the ratio in line.

But still miles ahead better than a few years ago when everything I 'needed' in my baseweight weighed just over 30#.

I can attest to this.....oh so true!

first of all congrats! and keep up the great work!!

I'm in process of doing the same thing, and what a difference it makes. After many years of trying to eat health-ish, but without much regular exercise I've reduced my base weight about 60# overall since my peak of around 210.

A few weeks ago I found that without that extra load I can do a pushup without my shoulder feeling like it was tearing...so without my extra load I am now building up my pushup count and doing some jogging again.
That body base weight really does make a difference!

Congratulations. I understand how difficult it is to change your lifestyle.
