I am embarking on a section hike. I am going from Dennis Cove to Spivey Gap on the AT. I would like to know if a hammock would be good as far as tree use is concerned.

Shouldn't be a problem plenty of trees.

I've done most of that area and most of it using a hammock...
Be weary at Spivey gap for hammocking. Trees at that site are all widow makers.
Ensure you use tree straps. Traditional standard is 1" wide minimum for the part touching the tree. I've heard higher minimum widths in some locations, but not on the AT, so you'll need to verify. Consider also posting your questions at a related forum, hammockforums dot net.
You should be fine.
