    Default No resupply at Fontana

Latest news I got was that Fontana won’t have resupply for two more weeks and I was advised to catch a shuttle at Stecoah Gap or somewhere else instead.

    Looking for advice or comments.

have someone send you an overnight express box of food or take the shuttle.

    Use the P.O.
And you only need 2-3 days food to gatlinburg.

Or bring enough from NOC to get to standing bear

That store has never had a lot of resupply. The easiest thing to do is mail yourself a resupply from Hiawassee to the Fontana Inn. I think there is a charge if you don't stay there. I've done this several times and have taken hikers from the parking lot on Hwy 28 to the inn a bunch of times so they could pick up their resupply at the inn. Works great.

You can also use a resupply service like Zero Day Resupply.

On a side note, I’m always surprised at how under equipped Fontana is every year. It’s like it’s a shock when hikers come through.

The couple, three times I've gone there to resupply I found enough to get me by. But then I was always there a bit later in the season (mid to late April) after they had time to get their act together.

I only mailed two resupply boxes on my hike, Fontana was the first, the hotel accepts packages. You should be able to make Standing Bear in 5 or 6 days and they have good resupply. If not it is about 3 days to Newfound Gap and Gatlinburg.

Robbinsville, an easy hitch from Stecoah Gap, has a large grocery store. I saw no need to go to Fontana Village after that stop.

The AT Guide just posted on Facebook this morning that the General Store at Fontana will open March 29.
