The area was dumped with 2" of water last week. Just got back from springer- neels and water was everywhere. Bring a little water flavoring if you dislike pungent flavored water.
If is definitely worth the side trail up to cold mountain summit I chose not to and I have always disliked that choice. It is THE Cold Mountain.

Remember, BRP is probably closed and possible snowy weather coming in. Northern end of ALT is very high elevation and can get nasty.

Stop at the HUB next to Davidson river, they have some tasty beers. If you want an outstanding meal before and or after trip head over to the square root in Brevard, get the brussel sprouts, calamari and a burger. You will thank me lol

Plenty of water! I was up on the BRP in that area Sunday and lots of small creeks were flowing well.

Parkway is currently open, but subject to change.

    Have fun!

I gotta ask. Does the Square Root(love that name) offer a platter with bs, squid and beef or is that ala carte?

Does all that come as one offering
or are they separate ala carte side orders?

Seems an eclectic mix of foods. I''m not familiar ever seeing or eating those three together.

Pulled up Square Roots menu. Eclectic. Thx for expanding my culinary mind when in Brevard.

The BS and Calamari are appetizers. And then a burger for main course

Thx all for the info... we just got back from alt and I can say it was an ass kicker in lil over 2 days...My 12 year old earned his trail name from my cousin....BB aka bitch boy! I ended up carrying my burn and his go light jam on several of the loooong climbs...I’d say the ALT was far more challenging than any trail or section I’ve done. 31 miles with over 9k’ feet of elevation gain was no joke. We ended up pounding some delicious cold libations at the Boojum brewery with William aka Cola hikes after we finished.....Big thanks to him for the shuttle and trail info.

It is indeed a kicker! Glad you got to do it I know you have been wanting to for a while!

First y'all hit us with the Square Root, now the Boojum. I feel like I'm taking outdoor geometry and botanical classes back on the U of Arizona campus' Krutch Garden.

A delight to see them in the wild while hiking, more so when in bloom, along with Ocotillo in the same genus.

I was on a trail run at Bent Creek last week, and my friend and I were talking about running the Art Loeb tail - a woman walking next to us as we passed stopped us to tell us she was Art Loeb's grand daughter, and his daughter (her mom) was there with her - it was really neat talking to them - but yeah - it's a really tough trail, and yes, I"m going to go run it with another friend who has also 'day hiked' the entire trail - I've backpacked it over 2.5 days - here's wishing me luck! This will be a practice run for the Cradle To Grave race in May (Cradle of Forestry to Grave Yard Fields)
