Default Section Hike From Springer Mountain to Hot Springs, June 1st.

    Hello All,

Looking for info about hiking this section in June. I look forward to learning from the valuable experience contained within this group.

Here’s a list of questions I have so far, please add anything you feel is important.

    - Are the springs a reliable source of water supply that time of year?

    - What’s the longest time frame I should prepare for a resupply stop?

    - What are some of the nicest places to lodge along the trail, ie. hotels, B&B’s, resorts, lodges or hostels?

I have “AWOLS” guide but would also appreciate any advice from the forum.

    Thank You,

    Eigerhiker

AT has plenty of water, just look at guide

How far between supplies depends on you. How far you hike, and how frequently you want to stop. Unless get off in gatlinburg, gsmnp will be longest stretch most likely, 5 days for some, 7 for others. Huge difference between 10 mpd hiker, and 20 mpd.

I would get Guthook. Use it in airplane mode on your phone to conserve battery power. It gives you your exact location on the trail and distances to shelters, water, views, etc. It also has information on shelters and services in trail towns. The program is free and you pay about $9 for each AT section or buy the thru-hiker special of the entire AT.

Sounds good. I read that some of the springs start to dry up in the Summer.

I’m an 8-10 mpd hiker, the last four years at a miserable desk job in an unreasonably hot state helped with that!

Hoping to correct that now the we’re in the Blue Ridge :-)

Fall, sept and oct is driest time.
Minor sources may be dry anytime if hasnt rained much in a few weeks. But generally, shelters are located at year round reliable sources you can count on. That's pretty much the main criteria for choosing shelter sites. In some places that half a mile off trail.

8-10 will require more frequent resupply.
