Default Winding Stair Gap to Standing Indian Campground

Going to be staying up near Franklin up Hwy 64 for the memorial day weekend was wondering if that can be done as a day hike by parking at Winding Stair Gap right off of 64 and then down to the campground? Thanks for any input in advance.

I've done WSG south on the AT to Rock Gap and back several times over the years as an easy day hike. If you want to get to the SI campground, you will need to road walk from Rock Gap to the campground entrance, or continue south on the AT from Rock Gap to Glassmine Gap and hang a right on the Long Branch trail. I think the latter option would make for a longer hike than taking the road. Good luck.

It's about 6 miles on the AT to the Long Branch trail, then a couple of miles down to the campground. Sure, nice day hike.
