Snoring, natures bear repellant?

So what do you think, those gawd awful noises in the night, the bark being ripped off nearby trees. Do you think a bear is in the least bit intimidated or is it like ringing the dinner bell or maybe like the ringmaster at the circus, inviting all to come see what sort of freak show is going on?

I've read that, in a variety of sources. Coupled with the fact we don't taste good, as well. Might be something to it, but who knows?

I will say if your snoring sounds like any of the sound recordings below (follow link) you might be communicating to bears in your sleep... but I’m sure it’s fine, bears are smart enough to know you’re a human, nothing to worry about. Nite, nite, don’t let the bed bears bite.

Snorers tend to have their mouths open. So, it depends on if sardines in EVOO, a steak, or PB was eaten before bed. Black bears rely heavily on their sense of smell in acting out behaviors not so much sound. I've read of several reports of bears sniffing or even licking human's faces/mouths after a kill or while sleeping.


Are you sure it's a bear ripping bark off trees being always heard and it's not antlered browsers in the deer family, porcupines, rabbits, squirrels, beavers(not always immediately at water's edge), livestock(cows and horses for example both strip bark), etc who will do the same. I've witnessed porcupines on two occasions stripping long pieces of bark off trees on the AT. Squirrels have been seen many times ripping park pieces off trees to get at food or nesting material. Rabbits will girdle trees peeling bark. Deer can make a racket thrashing young trees.
