So this is the week finally. The call is for West Mountain Shelter on Saturday night. Teacher is making the cheesecake this year. Sunday we go to the brunch at The Inn at Bear Mountain.
The weather forecast on Saturday was Rain Saturday Snow Sunday, yesterday Saturday was up in the air.....today they are calling for snow both days. This was the issue last year, they called for a nasty weekend of weather and it turned out to be nasty on Sunday....which would still have been a problem for travel home.
Well we started this to get out and challenge the cold........unless Saturday gets here in the 40's and it is a monsoon.....I'm going.
WHO IS IN? Taking a head count so Teach knows how much Cheesecake to Make!

Looks like Kathy and I are out for the group meet up.
Kathy has something she is committed to on Saturday and I have something on Sunday.
On another note, there was plenty of flowing water in the park this past weekend. Also, even with just a few inches of snow on the ground many of the trails are packed down from use and then iced over. Let me suggest having traction aids available.
hello all... just checking in to see who is interested in what is likely to be a water therapy weekend. I do still plan on going despite the forecast for rain. I will arrive early enough on friday to enjoy a bit of dry weather. I'm planning on leaving my car at the Inn parking lot with lots of dry clothes!!! These trips do vaguely resemble car camping, with all of the advantages. And sunday brunch sounds even better.

Well my gadget says snow! I'm going with the snow. It will have to be a monsoon when I get to Anthony Wayne for me not to go.

Laz's latest boutique glamping plan for the weekend: arrive Anthony Wayne parking late afternoon today (friday). take the long way to West Mountain to have a cute little hike. Spend a rain-less night. Get up pretty early tomorrow morning and take another cute little hike, returning to West mountain noonish, hopefully before the rain starts. Watch downloaded netflix Triple Frontier movie and lost in space episodes in hammock. Eat. Sleep saturday night while tarp dries. Wake up sunday morning, take another cute little hike to car, drive to brunch. Meet brother in law and anyone else wanting to walk up and down to Bear Mountain summit. Go home. Message me if you want my cell#.

I hope Saturday was not too uncomfortable! I did arrive at Anthony Wayne at around 1030 Saturday.........and it was in the first waves of Monsoon! I tried to go up to Perkins Tower, but the road was closed. We drove down to the Inn, then back to Rt.6 and then Seven Lakes Drive. Just showing my friend the park before we head home. I show him all the Trail heads to most of the Shelters. We head south past Tiorrati Circle and cruise down towards Sloatsburg......and right around Sebago Lake I come around a corner and there sits a Park Police cruiser, just as I come out of Lightspeed his lights go on. oopsy! He cut me a husk! That could have been an expensive tour! Next week, we will give GHD II a try.......but they are forecasting a Nor'easter
Confession: i got a teardrop camper and have been traveling with my wife roughly 25%of the time now that I'm slipping into retirement mode. MLK got me thinking of you all again. So... yes?

A LOT of "ifs" here, but......maybe?
"Maybe life isn't about avoiding the bruises. Maybe it's about collecting the scars to prove we showed up for it."
Are there any MLK plans for January 2021?
If not Kathy and. I will probably spend the weekend in Harriman S.P.
MLK XII.......here is Plan A......Bigelow Hollow SP, Connecticut / Massachusetts border on I84. Slosh thru the mud for a few miles, Saturday after the rain. Camp at South Shelter, endure the wind on Sunday looping around the park Sunday, and then staying warm until we leave Monday morning.
I would have posted earlier, but Connecticut makes it extremely difficult to plan and organize any type of camping.
So, HB, The Elf, I'm Scotty, Laz and I will be continuing this camp-out one more year!
