Default Martin Luther King weekend Harriman group hike VIII

Time to start fantasizing about winter hiking. Any chance it would be better all around to get together the weekend after MLK? Friday/ Saturday night seems like plenty- no one ever makes a third night. And you know, closer to spring, more daylight, smaller Sunday brunch crowd? (Yup, personal stuff...another wedding scheduled just when I want to go hiking! )

Either weekend would work for me. Are you on Facebook? At this point I think more of the MLK regulars frequently check groups there than here.

I'm going to formally announce that the annual leave no hiker behind winter trek is scheduled for the weekend AFTER MLK day. All welcome. Harriman park details to follow! Friday (extra credit) and Saturday nights with optional brunch at bear mountain inn on Sunday morning.

I could do weekend after as well.

Actually, although it was scratched last year due to weather, I did an overnighter in the area so I suppose we may claim that the string remains unbroken. Although I don't know if it's official without the cheesecake.

HB and I did go out to Big Hill on Ground Hog Weekend.......but I did not bring the Cheesecake. And this year...I don't care what the forecast, I'm going!

It's too early for me to commit to this, but I'm definitely very interested and will keep an eye on this thread. I'm in NYC so Harriman is my backyard anyway.

So.....where do we call for Saturday night? I would say Big Hill again, but on GHDI it was packed and a few tents and hammocks around it. How about some suggestions and we can toss them around!

Me too..................but you see that is where that leader thing sucks! We canceled cause I had all those folks coming out into the nasty weather, and then it wasn't AS bad as all that after all.

Which is one of the reasons why I liked finding this place in the first place..................I have found folks to hike with that I don't have to be the Scoutmaster for!!!

I'm going......unless It is a monsoon when I get in my car and drive to NY

Ok, how about we go back to West Mountain Shelter for Saturday night. 1 mile from Anthony Wayne lot or 2 miles from the lot at The Inn. We haven't been there in a few years.......the view.....plenty of room. Remember there is only a green frozen pond up there for water, so you gotta carry it up!
