Any real advantages or disadvantages headed sobo vs nobo? Less windshield time if I head southbound...

An advantage to heading nobo would be that you have a much more grand finale on Cheoah than you do at the southern terminus. The southernmost part of the trail is kind of boring without much to look at and you'll finish on a highway instead of a bald. If that doesn't make a difference, then less windshield time is always nice. You might consider making that call when you are close to your hike and have a more reliable weather report. If it was going to be beautiful at the start of my trip and not so good at the end, then I'd probably go sobo so I could catch Cheoah on a nice day.

I've left a car there a couple of times and haven't had any problems. It's a small lot right on the highway next to the bridge over the Chattooga, on the SC/GA line. There's enough traffic moving through there that I haven't ever worried about it.
