Better than talking about social distancing

How about 2 zip lines in each direction; 1 for packs, 1 for people? Folks with dogs use shuttles.

Long pull back cord to reset

    Sure would be fun

I saw this on Facebook, Canal Towns Partnership.

“We are happy to report the exciting news that the Byron Memorial pedestrian bridge repair at Harpers Ferry is moving forward. The heavily traveled bridge was damaged in a train derailment last December. A contractor has been retained, and preparations are underway (purchase/staging of materials, etc.). CSX is facilitating the repair.
The estimated start date for repair is now May 11, with a projected finish date near the end of July. A shuttle service will be operated if the economy opens before then.”

Well that’s cool. Given the circumstances the accident now will affect almost no one.

This is good news, projected finish date the end of July. Hopefully things will be going better by then and the small businesses of harpers ferry can salvage a bit of tourism.

Csx report confirms engineer error from the federal railroad administration. "As the B80220 began to make a pulling move from a complete stop near BAD0.2 the engineer used excessive force to make the initial movement with the breaks still applied resulting in a string line derailment ". Equipment damage $666, 456.

being fired from railroad train crew is a unique / complicated process

the initial firing can be fast

most have "can" insurance that pays until the actual hearing - often as long as 6 months

the hearing is after the full investigation and involves union negotiation

anyone will eventually make mistakes and replacement costs for an engineer is in the neighborhood of 1/4 mil

in the end, no one died - that is what makes an accident truly expensive (and traumatic for the crew )

True. The engineer will probably get a vacation. As a conductor, I was fired multiple time and ended up making more fired than working. We used to joke that the railroad was there only place they hired you one day and started trying to fire you the next.

    Default Footbridge re-opened

Harpers Ferry National Historical Park just notified ATC about 45 minutes ago that repairs have been completed by CSX and the footbridge has re-opened.
