    Default AMC Pamola Baxter

    Why does the AMC Guide not list Chimney Peak on Pamola as a 4k'er? Is it considered part of Katahdin?

    It lacks prominence. There isn't a big enough drop between Baxter and Pamola so it doesn't count for list baggers. Still counts for everyone else though

    Same fate as poor Mt. Quincy Adams, even though he's my favorite President:

    1. Wanted Andrew Jackson for V.P. because ""the Vice Presidency was a station in which he could hang no one, and in which he would need to quarrel with no one."
    2. Was sworn into office on a book of law, not a Bible;
    3. Refused to campaign for reelection on principle, because he thought the Presidency was a position of service and not a popularity contest.

    Fun fact: Mt. Jackson is not named after Andrew Jackson, even though it is the last peak in a Presidential Traverse. It's named after Charles Thomas Jackson, who was a geologist.

    No matter what, it is a very impressive summit when you are standing on it. straight down on three sides and even the last side is pretty hairy.

    Sure is! a bigger accomplishment than day hiking Katahdin (IMO)... I haven't been to the top of Hamlin, but going down the chimney backwards was surely the most difficult part of getting to Maine's highest point...
