Don’t carry a knife usually when I’m backpacking any significant distance. For weekend hiking and basecamping which I do more often these days it’s a hand-me-down 1940s fixed blade old timer that I keep in top shape.

I also like to take a folding saw and often a hatchet. I do more bushcraft these days in more remote areas than I do AT hiking.

Spyderco ladybug salt....sharp, light at under an oz and doesn’t corrode.

I carry a Kershaw Ken Onion folder for my EDC pocket knife, but lately, I've really come to love the CRKT SPEW. It's a nicely small fixed blade that cuts really well. Better yet, my local Walmart has them for $22. I love the compact size, which makes it easy to carry discreetly. However it's still big enough to cut salami or cheese in camp.

Go afield with a good attitude, with respect for the wildlife you hunt, and the forest and field in which you walk. Immerse yourself in the outdoor experience. It will cleanse your soul.--Fred Bear

I also carry this bad boy. Hence the need to shave weight elsewhere.

FWIW,Coughlan makes a small one ounce saw with about a 3.5 inch blade that will cut more than you would think.
I replaced my 6.5 oz Stihl pruning saw with it.

I use a simple Buck 110 folding knife at just under 3 ounces. It's not all that handy cutting my way through blowdowns, but is lighter and much more handy than handguns when cutting rope/string, fabrics, and shaping wood for various uses.

Benchmade Mini Freak. Fits my hand perfectly and relatively light but strong enough to be useful for me.
