So a 7lb baseweight and maybe 16lbs of food. 3lbs a day of 9000 calories each. 3000 calories a pound. 187 calories per ounce. 6.6 calories per gram.

    I think he's a bit shy of 9000 calories a day.

Carrying all that food isn't that considered a unsupported fkt ? And the unsupported fkt is 5d 23h that's what I was going by.

Ok thanks. Blows my mind what these super athletes are capable of. 18,20 hr days covering the distance of 2 or 3 marathons a day for multiple days. Able to work through that much pain for that long and especially on that rough trail. So he's out there now? Is he on his projected target time?

    Good luck StringBean!
Lovely trail for sure, and very exciting to see Stringbean going for it!
I need to check that link to see if he's going nobo or sobo...

    edit: he's going sobo!

Going sobo at his planned pace, he should now be past Camel's Hump and Burnt Rocks I think, likely even past Mt Abraham (the last 4K+ mountain heading sobo). Anyone heard anything on how he's doing?

According to the email updates his wife has been putting out. Link in his Instagram to sign up...... He's past the AT junction now. Feeling good. Headlamp batteries could be an issue tonight. Hoping to finish before dark tomorrow.....
His pace is close to the overall FKT and should only increase towards the finish with easier trial and good weather. We know he's a strong finisher from the AT FKT. I believe she said only 2hr of sleep planned between now and finish. Man if he grabs the overall not just the unsupported, WOW.

That mileage on the LT is absurd.

So some rough morning math....he'd have to average like 5mph for the next 12 from his last post to take the overall I think. The fact he mentioned possibly finishing with his phone flashlight tonight leads me to believe he doesn't think he'll finish by 7. But he should still take the unsupported by over a day! Which is insane. Because Legend is... well... a legend.

Man if we had real time tracking this could come down to a real interesting nail biter if he decides to dig deep and go for the overall. He's got to be feeling it, but from what I remember that last 40 ain't so bad lots of cruiser trail. So for a long distance runner maybe averaging 5mph in that terrain is feasible.

Thankfully, the weather co-operated and there hasn't been much rain this month, so getting stuck in the mud isn't much of an issue. Although the last 60 miles isn't nearly as hard as the first 60, there's still a few bumps along there which can slow you down, especially if running on fumes.

    Absolutely!

Having hiked the LT myself last year, what he's doing now is just blowing my mind!

From the email updates... 40 miles to go as of 1pm. Overall not looking likely but at current pace should take a nice chunk out of the unsupported!

Could even be done now 8pm ish. Looking forward to seeing his time
