I've met all 3 of you over the last decade and you are the kind of hikers that inspire me.
But PLEASE, take your ski technique debate to another thread. This is an important discussion about walking.
That being said, thanks for your input.

They're OK RedNeckRye. AT least they're not squabbling. As soon as someone asks a pertinent question about the route, all three will undoubtedly provide some great feedback - as per usual.

Chris and I are just busting each others chops. The day he takes me seriously is well, a first.


Not much longer..and I'll be at Springer.

ps. I put backcountry skiing into the same category as snowshoeing: A way of "hiking" in winter in the snow filled mountains. Resort skiing on the other hand... ;_

Mags and I are going hiking in Utah at the end of March, so there will be plenty of time to get into the finer points of French and Norwegian culture and their application to the Sierra High Route.

OK... back to our regularly scheduled program about the HSR.

In the guidebook, Steve Roper constantly mentions class 2 and class 3 terrain.
Then he will talk about "difficult" class 2, which seems (if you are to believe his words) almost impassible. Then a paragraph or two later he will describe a section as an "easy" class 3 and gloss over any difficulty. Huh, what?

That brief complaint aside, I cant wait to get out there.
