Join three teenage friends as they take an adventure of a lifetime. Their wanderlust drives them to attempt a NOBO thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. After the first week of demoralizing rain and injury, the group's cohesion is severely strained. As their spirits improve they befriend a female Australian hiker who travels with them during which the sordid side of the hiking community reveals itself. Socrates chooses Chacos sandals as footwear, shunned by many but their performance gains his unequivocal support. Trail angels and parents provide support and motivation along the way to the trail weary travelers. Opportunities for a unique experience, including terrifying plunges from Peace Rock and NY's Renaissance Faire, are not overlooked in this once in a lifetime adventure. The notorious White Mountains of New Hampshire present them with a level of danger any hiker who dares ascend to the dwelling place of The Great Spirit should take heed of. Which of them will prevail over the trail remains for the reader to discover. The story presents the human side of the struggle to conquer this beloved footpath.

Socrates and Shadow Monk, the main protagonists, were interviewed at length by Socrates' father (Bob Fox). Trail notes, pictures and communications were also used to capture their thoughts each step of their journey.
