Any good gear lists on TrailJournals?

I was checking out the Trailjournals.com, looking at different people's "gear pages", which show a list of every piece of gear the person brings, along with price, weight, and usually a picture.

Do any of you have your own trailjournals site with a very good "gear page", or know of any good ones, that I could use as a reference for shopping? I'm slowly updating all of my gear to prepare for a 2007 GA-ME.

That is a great list. But it seems to me that if you've actually spent time researching and using your gear that you'd know whether or not it was good/appropriate. Just for the record, we're thru-hiking wannabees (maybe you were talking about us?) and it looks to me like 4 of our big 4 are exactly (except the tarptent which is the 2-person model instead of the single) the same. There are differences in stove and other clothing choices but a lot of that stuff varies based on the personal preferences and comfort. The fact that he completed a thru does lend weight to his analysis but by the same token there are many on whiteblaze who have done a lot of hiking but never done a thru that would be just as well-informed about gear effectiveness.

Sticks is an awesome, art hiker and you couldn'tgo wrong copying his gear to the piece i you wanted to make sure you didnt make any really stupid gear choices. Having said that we all thought he was a little crazy when he left NOC in a snowtorm and made it thru 2 feet of the white stuff to Fontana Village in one day. He set the standard for a number of us.

when are you leaving? sobo or nobo? this will dictate your gear selections.

Well I'm planning on leaving in early March and hiking northbound. How would that make a difference in what gear I need to bring?

Well, obviously there is a difference in the gear you would bring if you left in January, as opposed to say, leaving in May. Additionally, a SOBO hike leaving in June, or as late as September, would again have different considerations. Since a March NOBO start is typical, I would say you would be fine looking at others gear lists online, since most people leave in March. But we left Feb 1, and had to take much more winter gear. On contrast, if you left May 1, you wouldnt need any, and would thus have a lighter pack as well.
