ATC probably forced to face reality after loosing so many donors not renewing their membership due to the ATC loosing their focus of their mission over the past year.
The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

I'm sure you have all sorts of evidence to back up that a) many donors didn't renew, and b) it had -anything- to do with 'loosing' (sic) their focus on the mission...

I registered last year and didn’t perceive any spam as a result.

Donated a little more to ATC this year; figured some people wouldn’t be able to. Yeah I’m not happy with everything they do, but I’m happier with more that they do than I am with most orgs.

I also would like to see some evidence of the ATC losing donors..

and as for their mission-----aren't they supposed to protect the trail? and the people who use the trail?

'cause i'm guessing you are upset that they asked people not to hike during the Rona......

When you have a $4,000,000 payroll like the ATC every little bit helps.

i don't have time to look at their budget right now but going to later today.......

but that's my biggest beef with non profits (and working in the business i got outta of, i've heard the arguments of why they get that much as we would work
with a lot of non profits)--------i don't understand why top personnel at a non profit makes a boatload of money?

i saw this a bunch with one food bank we did decades of work with......

their top brass made a ton of money------and they always had events where they were offering to feed me....

i kept telling them to keep the food as i could afford to eat unlike some of their clients........and if they gave some
of their salary back, they could fee more people.......after all, i thought that was their mission......

    It's all right here: https://appalachiantrail.org/wp-cont...m-990-2016.pdf

Top brass make a combined 300k for : Compensation of current officers, directors,
    trustees, and key employees

    RONALD J. TIPTON EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR = $200k.

Could he make less? Sure, but it's not a volunteer position.

They are a 4 star on Charity Navigator - highest possible rating.

77 cents of every dollar goes to program (the stuff they should be doing).
15 cents to admin costs (salaries and other overhead).
    7 cents to fundraising activities.

Salaries could be lower, but they don't waste a bunch on money of the costs of fundraising activities.

I'd consider them good stewards of the funds they receive based on this independent rating.
The older I get, the faster I hiked.

I believe Ron in gone, and his replacement’s replacement quit last year as well.

The ATC May be a worthy organization today, but in my (poorly informed, I will be the first to admit) opinion it seems to be a very different one from that built by Ron Tipton and his contemporaries.

    i agree that it's not a volunteer position----it's a full time job and more-----but 200k is a pretty nice
    salary............

like a really nice salary, imo.....

that kinda number would almost get me to go back into tv news....

wait---what the f*%^ am i talking about? no amount of money would ever get me to
go back into that line of work again.......

I think they got David Startzell for a whole lot less.

His mission was a lot more straight forward, however.

Hijacked on the second post and continued because of separate issues with the ATC. I'm going to repost into SF.
