Default Bear Mountain NY trail conditions

    Hi all,

How is the trail at Bear Mountain after the snowstorm on December 16-17? I know some areas in NY and PA got a foot or more of snow and some parts north got much more than that.
I'm interested in the steps adjacent to Bear Mountain Inn and the trail south to West Mountain Shelter.

Has anyone hiked that part in the last week?

I'd like to do a long day hike and am wondering about how much snow is up there. I was considering doing it tomorrow (on Christmas day) in the rain. Latest weather forecast has it staying warm all day so it shouldn't ice up. Previous weather forecasts had the temps. in the teens by mid-afternoon.
If not tomorrow, another day this weekend.

    Thanks.

    Was there for the storm
Had about a foot of snow
    But
Temps have been extremely high past few days
Add the 2" of rain and it might all be gone by the am

Thanks so much for the quick reply. That's exactly the local confirmation I needed.

    Cheers--enjoy the holiday.

After an 18-inch or so snowfall in NW CT last week, warm temperatures of around 60 degrees yesterday through last night along with 3-inches of rain has washed it all away. I doubt there is much left on Bear Mtn. at this point. There will probably be ice up there later today with a hard freeze predicted following the weather system as it passes.

Its still raining hard in Springfield MA, I would think most of the snow on the ridgeline would be gone

No trip report available yet....I didn't get to hike up at Bear Mountain today. Just didn't work out logistically for today.

All the snow is gone, all the streams are running. It's like spring right now.

Glad I was able to get out for one night of actual winter-like conditions.

We have been talking about going to The Mohawk Trail in Connecticut for MLK 9. We are thinking that Harriman is still trashed from the Covid.......what is your take Mr. CMoulder?

    Yo Coach!

Sorry, I did not see the thread about MLK9. I'll look for it.

Trails were stupid-crazy busy during the height of Covid but it has settled down a lot, although it goes without saying you still want to avoid Reeves, Silvermine, Skannatati and the other usual suspect trailheads, or get there early afternoon Friday.

Not having seen the thread yet I don't know if you're considering an alternative to Bear Mtn Inn for brunch, but another option is Rhodes North Tavern in Sloatsburg which has tons of parking.

EDIT: Not having any luck finding the thread!! Mohawk trail looks good too.
