The one I use the most is a HammockGear hex tarp, a little under 8 oz with guy lines and 4 Lawson Ti shepherd hooks.

Total shelter/hammock/quilts weight in this photo is about 2.6 lbs.

thank y'all for your input! i'm always looking for a way to get lighter w/o sacrificing comfort. i'm still fooling with a tarp & if i get comfortable with it "may" give it a try.
