    Default Anticipation

Anyone else get a great sense of anticipation when you have ordered something for a hike and you are just waiting for it to show up even if the hike is "a ways off?" I just ordered some trail books for Colorado as our son is supposed to get stationed there this year. And well, as good parents we want to visit him OF COURSE. I am thinking "Why does it take 4 DAYS to get a book shipped these days?!"
Don't they know I need to start reading NOW?!

As an, ahem, aside.... maybe this book would be useful if your son is stationed in/near Denver? I, er, "know" the author fairly well....

There are similar books for CO springs, boulder, Ft. Collins, etc.

LOL. He's got "soft orders" for Fort Carson. I ordered "Guide to Colorado Mountains" and of course "Colorado 14er Disasters" because I have developed a habit of reading about the bad outcomes some have experienced in areas I hike.

Which book is best for Fort Carson (Colorado Springs)?

    Here's the CO springs version:

Ft. Carson is in an excellent location for accessing the southern CO mountains, in particular the Sangre De Cristo ("blood of Christ") range, one of my favorites. And Salida and nearby mountains (southern Sawatch range) is really close too (out US 50).

Yeah, if he likes climbing, he'll start the 14er quest, most new Coloradan hikers do, but don't ignore the 13ers; there are nearly 600 of them (vs 55 14ers) and they are a lot less crowded. Since you might already have a 14er book, maybe Gerry Roachs', here's the 13er version:

Hope the Ft. Carson thing works out!

Everything takes much longer to ship these days. 2 day overnight on some Alpaca base layers took 11 days. You can bet that I opened them and immediately went on a hike

If it makes you feel better about the wait, went into a borders the other day to get a book for my daughter who wasn’t feeling well and likes old school print books. It was $35 for that dang book, $20 on amazon.
